Email Marketing: Five Effective Ways to Send an Email
December 16, 2014
Thanksgiving has just passed and Christmas Day is just around the corner.
So, with all the store sales, office parties and general seasonal activity, you might think that now is not the time to consider sending out a special email blast to your customers. People are just too busy and distracted to pay any attention, right? That is the common thought amongst many small businesses, but it's wrong.
In fact, the holiday season is an excellent time of year to send an email to your customers ad prospects. Many people actually have a little time now to go through their emails and may even read them before deleting them.
Since that is the case, your business may want to send an email blast advertising it's products and there are Five Effective Ways to Send an Email Ad:
Write an Eye-catching Headline: The headline to your email is the key to getting them to read it. Ask a question (Need a Break from Your Shopping?) or announce a sale (Ultimate Chocolate Cakes 50% off!). Just make sure it's relevant and gets attention.
Don't spam your headline or email with overused keywords or terms. Gmail, Outlook and other email services have strong spam catchers. If you have "Black Friday" or "Thanksgiving Sale" or other common terms, your email may automatically sent to the junk or spam file. Avoid using these lazy and even meaningless words in your headline or copy.
Write excellent and worthy content for your customer. Content is King in websites, social media and even emails. Your copy should be well-written with holiday graphics and links to your product on your website. Junk or keyword stuffed copy damages your brand and will not increase sales.
Make sure the first and second paragraph have all relevant information about the sale. No one has the time or patience to scroll through hundreds of words to finally find the items being advertised. So, make sure the reader can get all the information they need in the first 2-3 lines of text. It should have the item, its features, its price, a graphic and a link to purchase it.
Have a Call-to-Action button. Now that they want to purchase your product or find out about it at your website, have a call-to-action button available and easily seen in the text so it can be done quickly and easily.
Email marketing, contrary to myth, can be effective and profitable for your small business, even during the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. Just make it worth the time for someone to open it. They will appreciate it and may even buy from your company.
